How to Fix an Engine Overheating Problem

An overheating engine should be addressed immediately, as prolonged heat can lead to severe engine damage. Most overheating problems come from coolant loss, thermostat failure, radiator fan issues, or a malfunctioning water pump. Low coolant levels are often caused by leaks in hoses, the radiator, or the cooling system seals.

If your vehicle begins running hot, it’s important to inspect coolant levels and check for visible leaks. A stuck thermostat can also block coolant circulation, while a non-working radiator fan may prevent proper airflow at low speeds. Some vehicles also trap air inside the cooling system, which requires bleeding procedures that are specific to the model.

Service manuals provide the correct coolant capacity, thermostat location, and factory-approved repair steps, making diagnosis much easier.
